If you haven’t ridden the mountain bike trails in Uwharrie National Forest in the last year or so, they are worth a revisit. Extensive portions of the Keyauwee trail have been reworked resulting in improved trail conditions and a vastly improved riding experience, with big berms, small table tops, and a few nice rock garden features. In addition, the Wood Run Trail has been added connecting the parking lot near the highway with the camp area and Keyauwee trail head. This connector allows riders to bypass some of the gravel road and get started and the fun much quicker.
The Uwharrie Trails & Conservancy group has published a survey on their website to gather input to help guide the future of the trail system. Also on the site are maps of the trails in the Woodrun area, as well as the 40 additional miles of trail in the nearby Badin Lake area just a short ride or drive away. So check out their site and let them know what you want to see in the trail system.
