Trails
New trail development (and maintenance of existing trails) is important to the preservation of open space and encourages a healthy lifestyle for bikers of all ages. As dedicated stewards of the environment, TORC employs the International Mountain Biking Association’s (IMBA) trail-building best practices.
TORC has built strong relationships with Parks and Recreation Departments in Wake, Durham, and Orange counties. We also have a working relationship with a private land developer. These partnerships provide local mountain bikers with opportunities for trails access while protecting the future of existing trails.
How do I find out if a ride has been cancelled due to rain? Im scheduled to ride tonight at 5:45 for the ride like a girl and I don’t live that close. Can someone let me know please as soon as possible. Thanks
Hi Susan, apologies for the late response. Hopefully you will find this useful in the future. The most recent status of our events can be viewed from our meetup page: http://www.meetup.com/torc-nc/

Hello and thanks for doing what you do. Just stumbled across this inspiring site and have a burning question: Where can I find the best off road trails to suit my Surly Cross Check? I’m new to the Triangle and live near Wake Med/Waverly Place in South Cary. Thanks & Speed Safely! – Josh
Hi Josh!
Welcome and sorry about the late reply! There are several options for you and your Cross Check around here. Generally speaking, Umstead Park is a great place to ride your cross bike. Depending on how confident you are on your steed, you could also ride some of the lighter single track like Lake Crabtree or Lake Harris county parks.
Check out our meetup page for upcoming rides and events:
Ride on!
Why is Clayton (Legend Park) not listed?
Hey Jimmy, Listed where? Mtbproject widget?
Under trails on this site.
What we have done is link to http://www.mtbproject.com and it looks like no one has shared the trail data for Legend on mtbproject. You or anyone else who rides Legend can share the information about the trail/photos/segements on mtbproject.com and it will then be linked here also. For example, check out this one for Crabtree: http://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7000740/lake-crabtree-loop.
Aside from the mtbproject described above, this trail’s page doesn’t list any of the trails yet. We included some information about what counties TORC has a relationship but not the towns. TORC doesn’t have an MOU with Clayton and the Legend park trails but TORC does support the trail builders and will cross post, within TORC Meetup and Facebook being scheduled with enough notice, any of the current work days .
Hello, Want to get involved. How do I access trails at Briar Chapel? Thanks! Barb
Hi, if you mean for trail work volunteering, we schedule these on Meetup.com/torc-nc, the next BC work day is tomorrow : https://www.meetup.com/torc-nc/events/247406278/, to get to the skills area
To access the BC trails, you can access them from various parts of the neighborhood, the easiest is parking at the clubhouse and biking down Great Ridge Parkway (left turn) to connect to the trail.
If you are interested in getting involved with TORC as a volunteer, please email races@torc-nc.org. Thanks!
Hi, I’m trying to connect with someone to find out about setting up regular dates for my son’s middle school mountain biking team to help with trail maintenance. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks! Celena
Please email trails@torc-nc.org, David can help you get setup. Also RSVP for trail work days posted on http://www.meetup.com/torc-nc!
[…] next for help. There were no listings for trails near Wendell Falls. Hmm. TORC’s own Trails page simply embeds a map from MTBProject showing area trails. Is that an ‘information gap […]
